How to transition from the military to the government

The conversion from the military to the private sector is never easy. Somebody who has spent most of his/her life in the military finds the civilian universe quite daunting. However, with adequate preparation one can smoothly transition from the military without any major problems. Many Federal jobs require to have the same values that are core in the military. They include honor, integrity and commitment. By following a planned process, achievement of goals is certainly within reach.
Begin by picking the right path that will connect to the position of your choice. To establish your line of specialization, make a list of all your qualifications. Obtain the MET document. This document will provide information to write a resume. It provides data on the experience that you have obtained and the training received while in the military. It additionally gives information on comparable civilian jobs.
Set up a timeline and a checklist that will guide you during the preparation. It will help you avoiding the risk of forgetting something essential. Take time to attend employment fairs. During the interview process, listen keenly; be polite when answering questions. Interviews for government jobs require background checks on your personality. Provide all the information requested in an honest manner. Do not conceal anything. Dishonesty and concealing of information are enough grounds to dismiss your application.
Finally, avoid stress. Lighten up. Let your family be involved in the transition process. Market yourself everywhere and let people know about your skills.
